This is the panel most people picture when they hear metal roof. Corrugated or ribbed sheets, screwed down through the face of the metal, with the screw heads visible in rows across the roof.
Each of those screws seals against the panel with a rubber grommet. That grommet is the weak point. Utah gives it the worst of both worlds: intense UV that degrades rubber. A large daily temperature swing that expands and contracts the metal around it. Over time the grommets crack and the screws loosen. Each one becomes a small hole in your roof.
The practical consequence is a maintenance schedule. An exposed-fastener roof generally needs re-screwing every five to eight years. That means someone walks the roof, replaces failed fasteners, and re-seals. That is a real recurring cost and a real recurring appointment. It is rarely mentioned during the sale.
What it buys you is the lowest entry price in metal. On an outbuilding, a shop, or a barn, that trade is often exactly right. On a house you intend to stop thinking about, it is a different proposition.

The clip system does something else worth understanding. Metal panels expand and contract significantly with temperature. Utah swings hard between a hot afternoon and a cold night. So that movement works against the fasteners instead, which is part of why the grommets fail.

Whichever you choose, at elevation the snow retention system matters more than the panel choice and needs to be engineered to actual snow-load data.
Less easily than you expect. Metal stops being safely walkable around a 5/12 pitch, where shingles stay workable to roughly 8/12. That affects every future service visit, from gutters to chimney work to holiday lights. So it is worth factoring in as an ownership cost rather than discovering later.
